The Tigers will wear purple jerseys with white helmets and white pants.
Both teams will don special pelican emblems designed by Nike. The pelican is a tribute to the state bird and stylistically resembles the Phoenix, a symbol of the city’s rebirth.
Last week they upset their intrastate rival. This week the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats were named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week after a 42-29 win over Arkansas.
Kentucky (4-0, 1-0 SEC) was led by senior quarterback Andre Woodson, who threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for another touchdown while leading the Wildcats to their second straight fourth-quarter comeback.
The Wildcats play Florida Atlantic this week.

The Oct. 6 Georgia-Tennessee game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CDT and be televised on CBS, the network said Monday.

Georgia kicker Brandon Coutu was named a Lou Groza Collegiate place kicker award star of the week on Monday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
The senior kicked two field goals in Georgia’s 26-23 overtime win over Alabama.

Former Georgia athletic director and football coach Vince Dooley received the Homer Rice Award from the Division I-A Athletic Directors Association on Monday in Dallas.
The award is the top honor given to a retired athletic director with a distinguished career who made a significant impact on the athletics director profession.
Dooley was the AD at Georgia from 1988-2004, during which the Bulldogs won 20 national team titles and 78 SEC team titles.

Four members of Florida’s 2006 national championship team made their NFL debut on Sunday. Two others, Ray McDonald and Joe Cohen, will suit up tonight for the San Francisco 49ers against the Arizona Cardinals.

Reggie Nelson had the biggest day of any former Gator. in Jacksonville’s 13-10 loss to Tennessee, Nelson had seven tackles, all solo, and one sack.

Jarvis Moss and Marcus Thomas helped Denver beat Buffalo on a last-second field goal by Jason Elam. Moss had four tackles, good for fourth best on the team and Thomas added another solo effort.

On offense, running back DeShawn Wynn had one rush for eight yards in the Packers 16-13 win over the Eagles.

Check back tomorrow for updates on how McDonald and Cohen did on Monday Night Football, and come back every Monday for a recap of how the ‘06 Gators in the NFL did on Sundays.

LSU football released an open letter to its fans regarding Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech.

“The Virginia Tech community suffered the horrific loss of family and
friends in the tragic shootings of April 16. All of us on college
campuses across the nation shared in their grief and suffering.

As students, fans and alumni from Virginia Tech come to the LSU campus
for the Hokies’ first road football game of the 2007 season, we know
Tiger fans will welcome them with open arms and sympathetic hearts.

The people of Louisiana are known for their heart-felt compassion and
gracious hospitality, and on this occasion we hope everyone will pay
particular respect to the Virginia Tech players and their fans.

The competition on the field will be healthy and fierce, and your
Tigers will represent LSU with pride when the ball is kicked off. But
in pre-game festivities, let us all be mindful of the difficult road our
visitors have traveled since April 16.”

Signed by Matt Flynn, Glenn Dorsey and Craig Steltz (team captains in
last week’s season opener) and head coach Les Miles.
