Florida safety Tony Joiner was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with second-degree felony burglary after he attempted to retrieve his girlfriend’s car from an impound lot, according to the Alachua County Jail Web site.

Florida Sports Information Director Steve McClain told the Palm Beach Post that coach Urban Meyer was informed of Joiner’s arrest on Tuesday morning.

Joiner, whose given first name is Earl, was booked at 5:40 a.m. after Gainesville police arrested the Gators captain at Watson’s Towing at around 4:30 a.m., located on the south side of Gainesville.

According to media reports, Joiner pushed open the electric gates at Watson’s and started to drive her car out when he noticed two men watching. Joiner then returned the car to the lot and waited for police to arrive.

Joiner, one of two returning starters on Florida’s defense, has 13 tackles and one interception this season.

This comes after three current Gators and former Florida All-American Reggie Nelson were questioned on Sunday about a shooting outside a Gainesville nightclub late Saturday night.

According to sources, two of those Gators were offensive linemen Mike and Maurkice Pouncey.

Joiner is the first Gator to be arrested since 10 were during the 2006 season and into last summer.
