The FCCAA released its preseason Top 10 on Monday without many surprises.

Chipola starts atop the men’s poll, receiving 19 of 20 first-place votes. The defending national champion Gulf Coast Lady Commodores barely entered the season as the top-ranked team in the women’s poll. They edged No. 2 Chipola by one point, but received more first place votes, 10-2.

The Gulf Coast men’s team was ranked seventh in the state poll.

Enrique Davis update: Week 9

October 27th, 2008, 1:51 pm by Josh Weinfuss

A week after rushing for 70 yards, Enrique Davis had only two carries for five yards.

For the season, Davis, a former Mosley All-American, has 162 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries.

Ole Miss is 4-4 and hosts Auburn on Saturday.

My new BCS predictions…

October 26th, 2008, 5:09 pm by Josh Weinfuss

After watching Saturday’s games, it’s pretty clear to me now who I think will play in the FedEx BCS National Championship Game.

Florida and Penn State.

The Gators’ defense and special teams are just too strong. And now that Urban Meyer has finally figured out that by playing Jeff Demps, Chris Rainey, Percy Harvin and Brandon James together, it opens up the field for Tim Tebow to keep on running.

The Nittany Lions got by Ohio State in unimpressive fashion. But folks, remember, it’s the Big Ten. Games like this aren’t typically overwhelming. It’s defense, defense, defense, kind of like the old NFC Central, you know, the Black and Blue Division. Penn State will win out and win the Big Ten.

Here’s how they both get to the BCS: Florida defeat Georgia on Saturday and move into the Top 5 of the BCS. The Gators will win the SEC East and Alabama will win the SEC West. They’ll meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game and the Gators will win, knocking off the No. 2 team in the country.

Texas will lose in the Big 12 Championship Game and fall from the graces of No. 1. Penn State, now No. 3, will move up to No. 1 and Florida will end up No. 2.

Thus, the matchup for the national title.

Enjoy.

As the week progresses, Las Vegas oddsmakers believe the Florida Gators will win by more and more.

The Gators were bumped to a 26-point favorite this morning by Harrah’s Race and Sports Book.

Bet wisely.
