Obama is a college football fan

November 3rd, 2008, 5:28 pm by Josh Weinfuss

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama may win some votes during tonight’s interview at halftime of Monday Night Football.

When asked by Chris Berman what he would change about sports, Obama responded with this:

“I think it is about time that we had playoffs in college football,” Obama said. “I’m fed up with these computer rankings and this and that and the other. Get eight teams - the top eight teams right at the end. You got a playoff. Decide on a National Champion.”

The quote was provided from ESPN from an excerpt of tonight’s interview, which was taped earlier this morning.

How many votes do you think he’ll win? Lose?

Tennessee’s Fulmer to step down

November 3rd, 2008, 10:36 am by Josh Weinfuss

According to ESPN.com’s Chris Low, Fulmer and the University of Tennessee have decided it’s best for him to step down after this season, his 16th at the school.

Read the story here.

The Vols are 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the SEC, sitting last in the East.

Fulmer has been under some heat for the last few seasons. The Vols went 5-6 in 2005 and there were calls for Fulmer to resign. Tennessee rebounded with a 9-4 2006 and a 10-4 2007 including a berth in the SEC Championship Game where it lost to eventual national champion LSU, but Tennessee hasn’t been back to a BCS game since winning the national championship in 1998.

An announcement is expected to come today, Low reports.
