Scovel: TCC more athletic

In the eyes of Gulf Coast women’s basketball coach, Tuesday night’s win over Tallahassee proved one thing: Athleticism doesn’t always mean a victory.

She said the Lady Eagles were more athletic than the young Lady Commodores at most positions, but added that doesn’t mean they were more talented.

Gulf Coast showed Tuesday that basketball talent is worth more than athletic talent, and how it’s easy to overcome.

“I think staying composed and executing in the second half,” Scovel said.

Enrique Davis update: Cotton Bowl

Former Mosley All-American Enrique Davis had five carries for 22 yards, including a 11-yard run, in Mississippi’s 47-34 win over Texas Tech.

For the season, Davis finished fourth on the team in rushing.

He played in 10 of 13 games and finished with 244 yards on 64 carries. Davis ran for three touchdowns and averaged 3.8 yards per carry.

His season-long rush was 62 yards.

The Rebels finished 9-4 in Houston Nutt’s first season.

Gator fans can watch NCG in Gainesville

Thursdsay’s FedEx BCS National Championship game will be simulcasted at the O’Connell Center following the Florida Gators women’s basketball game.

Fans can watch the women for free at 5 p.m. Doors open at 4 p.m.

After 5:30 p.m., only Florida students, faculty and staff with Gator 1 cards will be permitted inside.

The game, which will start at 7:17 p.m. CST, will be shown on four large video boards. Concessions will be available and the doors will remain open until the beginning of the third quarter or until all seats are taken.
