Tri-accidental tragedy: Triathlon deaths series

August 21st, 2008, 8:22 pm by Josh Weinfuss

Just wanted to pass along the links to my triathlon deaths series.

Three triathletes have been pulled from the Gulf of Mexico during triathlons during the last two years. All subsequently died. I took a look into who these people were, what happened on those fateful days and how it could be prevented.

Enjoy.

May 13th, 2008, 9:52 am by Josh Weinfuss

An autopsy on Patrick Kane, the 38-year-old man who died during the Gulf Coast Triathlon on Saturday, will be performed Wednesday, the Bay County Medical Examiner’s office said today.

Results of the autopsy can be released anywhere from this week to October.

If ordered, a toxicology report could take between 12-20 weeks to be released. If one isn’t ordered, the results could be available this week, the office said.

The 38-year-old Kane was found floating on his back in the Gulf of Mexico during return leg of the 1.2-mile swim.
