January 15th, 2009, 12:40 pm by Josh Weinfuss

Gulf Coast women’s coach Roonie Scovel stood and sat, complained and cheered all night Wednesday during the Lady Commodores win over Chipola.

After the game, however, Scovel limped off the court.

She underwent back surgery during the offseason for a compressed nerve. It’s now regenerating and the nerve damage is affecting her legs.

Scovel’s affected most when she either sits or stands for a long period of time. Between Gulf Coast’s trip to Pensacola last weekend and a recent recruiting trip, Scovel’s nerves began to act up again.

It can take 12 to 18 months or forever to heal, she said.

“It’s a wait and see type of thing,” Scovel said.
