Hornsby an All American, Ole Miss commit

Former Florida Gator Jamar Hornsby made the most of his time at East Mississippi Community College.

Hornsby was dismissed from the Florida football on May 9, the same day he turned himself in to Gainesville Police for using the gas card belonging to Ashley Slonina, the former Lynn Haven resident and Florida student who was killed along with Gators’ walk-on Michael Guilford on Oct. 12, 2007.

Hornsby was named to the NJCAA football All-American second team as a defensive back. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Hornsby had 111 tackles this season including 64 solo.

East Mississippi won the north division of the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges Athletic Conference. Hornsby was named the Most Valuable Player of the MACJC defensive backs. Hornsby finished the season strong, recording double-digit tackles in five of the last seven games in 2008.

According to Rivals.com, Hornsby has verbally committed on Dec. 7 to play at Mississippi next season. He was also recruited by Oregon, Arkansas and Kentucky.

Hornsby to announce decision soon

Jamar Hornsby, the former Florida Gators football player who was arrested on charges of credit card theft after using Ashley Slonina’s gas card, received an extension on his pre-trial conference on Monday.

Hornsby is expected announce whether he will plead or request a trial on Dec. 1.

If Hornsby chooses a trial, it is expected to start on Dec. 8.

If he chooses to plea at his pretrial conference, a judge will schedule a plea hearing and then a sentencing hearing.
